Summer Camp
Havmiljøvokter Camp - summer community with meaning
The Havmiljøvokter Camp is an inclusive summer program for young people aged 12 to 15. The camp is part of Bufdir’s national scheme for the inclusion of children and youth, and provides a safe, social, and educational holiday week. Here, youth from different municipalities come together to experience community, nature, and coastal culture - while learning about the environment, cooperation, and sustainability.
What happens at the camp?
-
A week of outdoor activities, ocean experiences and coastal culture
-
Friendship and community across municipalities and backgrounds
-
Training in environment and sustainability through hands-on activities
-
Older youth and young adults serve as mentors - “youth leading youth” in practice
-
A safe environment with adults present, low threshold for participation and no required prior knowledge
Why Havmiljøvokter Camp?
-
Many young people have few options during school holidays. The camp offers activity, safety and a sense of development.
-
Participants build friendships and community across municipal borders - especially important in small communities.
-
Youth feel seen, heard, and included.
-
The camp helps prevent loneliness and social exclusion.
Sustainability and Inclusion
The Marine Environment Guardian Camp supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals 3, 11, and 14, as well as the EU Youth Goals on inclusion, participation, and sustainability. It gives young people a voice and experience with democracy and collaboration.
The Road Ahead
From 2025, the camp will rotate between municipalities in Helgeland so more youth can participate each year.
The goal is to make the camp a yearly highlight - a meeting place that creates memories, personal development, and motivation for the future.
